Spring visit to Quaker wood

This morning we had our second visit to Quaker wood. What a fantastic time we had! The rain kindly held off and we had too much fun to notice the chilly wind. Thanks again go to the staff at Quaker wood for organising such informative and fun activities.

Activity 1 involved measuring ourselves and finding a tree of the same height, then measuring our little fingers and finding a leaf of the same length.

We measured the pond dipping platform using our feet and counting the steps

We found out how many children could fit around the trunk of a big, old oak tree.

In the second activity we pulled up all the weeds that had grown inside the tree guards to give the new trees room to grow. It was hard work!

During the third activity we did some orienteering. We had to find cards with numbers on in the right order and write down the letters that were on them. The cards were hidden very well and tricky to find.

The fourth and final activity was looking for signs of Spring. We found lots of buds, catkins and celandines. We sat really quietly and listened to the beautiful sound of birds singing to each other, a sure sign that Spring is finally here!

I wonder?

Autumn ~ how old were you when you decided?
Ellie ~ did you get the job you dreamed of?
Izzy ~ why did you go to Scutari?
Willow ~ how long did the journey to Scutari take?
Lauren ~ were you tired after your journey to Scutari?
Autumn ~ how did you travel to Scutari?
Harley ~ what hospital did you go to?
Abigail ~ how many beds were there at the hospital?
Izzy ~ what was the hospital like?
Oliver ~ how big was the hospital?
Luke ~ how many sick people were there?
Lauren ~ how many patients survived in your hospital?
Willow ~ did any of your nurses get sick?
Kai ~ why did you have 3 hats?
Izzy ~ why did you carry the lamp?
Oliver ~ why did you want to go to the war?
Maisie ~ how long were you a nurse?
Willow ~ did you like being a nurse there?
Chloe ~ how old would you be if you were alive now?

Over the next few weeks we will hope to answer many of these questions.
